Luxury vinyl flooring: FAQ
Luxury vinyl is flooring that has it all and, in just a few years, it has become one of the most sought-after products. We know some still aren't familiar with it yet, and we often hear the same questions repeatedly. So we're breaking it all down, and please continue reading to find out why it may be the right choice for you.
Why do we call it affordable style?
This product offers true-to-life images of wood, stone, and tile, so realistic that even flooring experts sometimes can't tell the difference. With innovations like micro beveling and embossing, the floors have depth, dimension, and textured appearances, including wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, and distressed. They're highly realistic, and you'll pay anywhere from two to three times less than you would for genuine wood.
What is LVP flooring?
Vinyl plank flooring refers to luxury vinyl being cut into long planks to mimic hardwood boards, while the square, groutable forms echo stone and tile. The latter is called LVT flooring. Many feel the extra seams add to the realism, while some prefer to use plank for the stone looks, feeling that the larger format and fewer seams give it a more continuous look like that of quarried stone.
What is waterproof durability?
This material is 100% waterproof from the bottom to the top. That means it can either be submerged, such as when the dishwasher floods or it can be spilled on with no liquid penetration to peel or ripple. While all vinyl is durable, this version is thicker, measuring at least 8-mm, with a top transparent, strong melamine layer (20-mils) that protects the floor from scratches and scuffs.
How is it maintained?
This vinyl is low maintenance, requiring daily sweeping and periodic mopping with a manufacturer-approved cleaner and avoiding wax, shine-promoting ones. Installation is a snap, literally, and can be a floating floor where the pieces click together, mat, then hover over the subfloor with no nails or glue. Subfloors need to be clean, dry, and level.
